TCGplayer Market Price
TCGplayer Market Price is a price point compiled from recent sales completed on TCGplayer.com. It measures what a card sells for, not what sellers ask, which is why most card stores price their singles from it.

Definition
What TCGplayer says it is
In TCGplayer's own words, Market Price "is compiled from recent sales completed on TCGplayer.com" and "is updated as transactions complete". TCGplayer describes it as reflecting "the best suggested retail price of a product". TCGplayer doesn't publish the exact formula.
The price points on a TCGplayer product page reflect the printing and condition you filter by. So a card has a Market Price for each printing and condition: a Near Mint Foil and a Lightly Played Normal copy are two different numbers.

Market Price and the other price points
| Price point | Built from | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Market Price | Recent completed sales | What the card actually sells for |
| Most Recent Sale | The last sale for the filters applied | One data point, which can be an outlier |
| Listed Median | Current listings only | What sellers ask; TCGplayer notes it can differ a lot from what people pay, especially on older products |
TCGplayer also shows a Market Price Volatility scale, based on sales volume and price spread over a 30 day period.
For your store
How card stores use it
Because it comes from sales, Market Price is a fair anchor for a store's own prices: customers recognise it, and it moves when the market does. Stores usually price at it, a little under it for online sales, or a little over for the convenience of buying in person.
In Synq, every price rule starts from the TCGplayer market price of each card, printing and condition, converted from US dollars to your store's currency. The catalog updates once a day, and your prices change when a rule runs. See TCGplayer prices in Shopify.

No. Market Price is compiled from completed sales. Listings are what sellers ask, and TCGplayer shows those separately, for example as the Listed Median.
